Hosted by the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) in celebration of the Philippine Film Industry Month.
On the occasion of the 30th founding anniversary of the SAMAHAN NG MGA FILIPINONG ARKIVISTA PARA SA PELIKULA, INC. or the Society of Filipino Archivists for Film (SOFIA), together with its institutional members led by the Philippine Film Archive (PFA), SOFIA is taking the initiative to hold the PHILIPPINE AUDIOVISUAL HERITAGE PRE-SUMMIT to pursue the same aspirations of binding together for collaboration and sustainability of our efforts for AV heritage preservation.
This initiative shall take the form of a Pre-Summit, composed of panel presentations to bring together the advocates, custodians, and stalwarts of audio visual collections to share their archival initiatives, projects, and/or practices in order to preserve diverse audiovisual works with historical importance and cultural merit. This is a Pre-Summit to pave the way for the Summit next year 2024.
The Pre-Summit will be held this coming 18 September 2023 Monday at the Cinematheque Manila from 1:00 to 5:30 in the afternoon. We have invited SOFIA President Emeritus and De La Salle University professor Clodualdo “Doy” Del Mundo Jr. to be our keynote speaker. At the end of the Pre-Summit, we aim to initially set our agenda by identifying the themes, common interests/issues/concerns, and possible activities that our audiovisual archiving community may engage together, for one, for the 2024 Summit, and even beyond.
A special film screening of GAMITIN MO AKO, a film directed by National Artist for Film Ishmael Bernal and written by National Artist for Theatre and Literature Ronaldo Tinio, will also be held on the same day at 7:00 to 9:30 in the evening to highlight the 30th anniversary of the organization with the theme “SOFIA, tatlong dekada, padayon: Continuing the advocacy for audiovisual archiving.”
Pre-registration will close by September 17, 2023 SUNDAY 9:00 PM. WALK-IN PARTICIPANTS FOR THE PRE-SUMMIT WILL BE ENTERTAINED AS LONG AS SEATS ARE AVAILABLE.
