Prussian Blues

a cyanotype exhibit by Dar San Agustin

Feb 8 – 17, 2019
Pineapple Lab
6053, R. Palma Street, Barangay Poblacion, 1210 Makati

Cyanotype is a photographic printing process that dates back from 1842, and was instrumental for architects and engineers in producing blueprints. She creatively applies this process to make abstract photographs without the use or aid of a camera, and are easily identified by their distinct color that’s often described as “Prussian Blue”.

While these photographs seemingly convey concrete thoughts and concepts, Dar prefers to leave their interpretation and meaning to the viewer’s discretion. She accomplishes this by including works that have a degree of activity and/or require participation. Using different materials also allows the audience to engage with her work. At the end of the day, Dar aims to provide a medium or space that her audience can immerse themselves within her work, as opposed to being passive observers to it.

About the artist:
Dar is THAT blue-haired (usually) girl who believes that traditional printing is never dead. She had her first solo exhibit entitled “Romantic Browns” last October 2018 at Pineapple Lab. This February, she paints the venue in a new shade with her new series called “Prussian Blues”.

With this she aims to show the beauty of creating handcrafted prints and its artistic possibilities, and promote the tradition of light-sensitive creative processes.
