Cinema ’76 Film Society
160 Luna Mencias St. Brgy. Addition Hills, San Juan 1600
An introduction to screenwriting. It is open to would-be screenwriters or to anyone interested in writing for film.
Screenwriting is essentially storytelling with images and sounds. Using “triggers,” like an opening line, an image, and a music composition, participants will do short exercises in filmic storytelling.
Short films (e.g. works by Bernardo Bertolucci, Mike Figgis, Juan Solanas, and Christopher Nolan) will be used to illustrate various elements of the medium – character, structure, dialogue, conflict, connection, and theme.
A full-length film by Iranian filmmaker Majid Majidi will be viewed and deconstructed.
The stress of this workshop is on personal screenwriting. The stories are not out there, but in the screenwriter’s self.
