A nude sketching community turned inwards, Sunday Nudes PH abandons their regular life drawing practice for SEND NUDES, a group show featuring the nude self-portraits of 32 creatives in various media. And since having started their #SundayNvdesNAKEDTOURS this year, they are pleased to be joined by fellow artists from their Feb 2019 Bacolod session.
In the tradition of the nude as artistic category, depicting idealised bodies and appointing muses signals the objectification of the human figure, essentially rendering the body a commodity for consumers of art. Instead, SEND NUDES considers art as a vehicle for social change: the diverse bodies on display wrestle with the negotiation between vanity and honest self-evaluation, an act that manifests themes of vulnerability and ultimately, self acceptance.
