A Story of Juno Galang, the Man Who Goes Back to His First Love at 80

By Mari Zhar

New York. Seattle. Washington. Vancouver, Canada. Few States in the USA, and countries that Juno Galang explored, lived and experienced as an artist through different faces and phases in his life. Brief stints as an illustrator and a graphic artist in advertising agencies. Though his journey as visual artist started earlier on, art has always been his preferred language for communicating.

Hawaii. Painting has become Juno’s journal and main language. As he fondly calls it – “painting memories.” While tourists and visitors alike enjoyed the island, he saw to it that visitors will be able to bring a part of the island with them through his artworks. Most of his artworks then were of local flavors and colors of the islands, and featured the culture, traditions, and the people.

Home. He made the decision to retrace his roots after living elsewhere for 55 years. Juno thought about returning to the Philippines, where he felt he genuinely belonged, despite his remarkable growth and the imprints left by a distinguished and successful painting career, which included 22 years as a gallery artist. The pandemic of 2020 also had a beneficial effect on Juno Galang; it entirely inspired him to return to his first love – which is ART (and painting in particular). Focusing his energy, and having that passion for creating, and engaging with art. Honestly realizing that his identity as an artist is vital to who he is and what he does. He finds consolation, meaning, and self-expression in the creative process and has a strong emotional resonance with it because it surpasses all other interests and pursuits in his life.

Have a glimpse of JUNO GALANG’s LOVE, LOST, LEARNINGS, and REBIRTH thru his first-ever one-man exhibition after coming back home to the PHILIPPINES.
