8th SIPA* International Performance Art Festival

*Solidarity In Performance Art

September 24-29, 2023

PILAT: (Body/Memory) is the theme for the 8th Solidarity in Performance Art (SIPA) International Festival!

PILAT is a Filipino term for a scar. PILAT is usually the result of a physical experience, an accident, or an event and the emotions attached to it.

PILAT can also be related to a space that leaves a mark on someone’s past experiences or serves as mnemonic aids.

PILAT may be a result of the previous performance, motivated by the signs of time and the environment affecting the performance.

PILAT can also be about time. In the history of the Philippines, Martial Law created deep wounds in our nation that can never be forgotten.

On the other hand, PILAT is a healed wound. It became a sign or a source of courage and success from the past.

The festival aims to emphasize the “body” as the primary medium in performance art and the power of the body to create dialogue, discourse, and meanings, especially in this time of pandemic, war, and crisis in the world. Pursuing the call for peace and democracy in performance and dialogue is an urgent one, and solidarity in performance is one way of attaining a community of artists that is progressive, pro-people, and peace-loving.

The festival will be held on September 24-29, 2023 with the participation of more than 25 Performance artists from Thailand, Indonesia, Japan, Okinawa, USA and the Philippines.
