The inspiration of Fitz Ocampo behind this exhibition is the concept of time. This concept is explored by showing time through changes in season. It is also explored through childhood objects and themes representing time as both temporary or fleeting yet eternal and unchanging.

Fitz Ocampo’s motivation as an artist is to express her life experiences – both beautiful and painful which she celebrates in her artworks as part of her identity, self discovery and personal healing. It is very personal, intimate, and a mirror of her life while exploring the concept of Time and Flight as a theme.

In her painting “In Time Spring Will Come”, the artist represented her years of struggle of not having a baby. In time her dream of being a mother was fulfilled. Her painting “Our Time Together” is as colorful as autumn leaves, represents her colorful journey with her daughter.

Another painting “Directing My Steps to Find My Wings in This Winter Time” represents the artist’s struggle with depression. It took years of counseling and expressing her emotions through painting that helped in her healing. Her painting of her daughter “Praying For Summer All the Time” represents her time of healing. Each of these four major paintings shows the artist’s thoughts that difficulties in our lives are just seasons, and time can really heal wounds.

Her other paintings are still life of clocks and other children’s toys. Like seasons, childhood is also like time that slips away so fast. Therefore one should cherish and treasure it. Flight is presented through images of fairies and fairy wings. It is a symbolism for hopes, dreams and her inner most wishes that is destined to be achieved in time.

In this exhibition, Time is represented as both valuable and precious. It focuses on how time can help a person reach their dreams – the concept of flight. At the right given perfect time, goals and dreams can be achieved. In the process, one should learn to value time and enjoy the journey.
