Anthony Lizano Jandusay was born in Manila and raised in Boac, Marinduque. He is a member of Legions of the Marinduque, in the celebration of Moriones Lenten rites which depicts the sufferings of Christ in the hands of the centurions. One of Anthony’s earlier paintings Via Crusis was showcased in the Hotel Lune Competition which dramatically reproduces the way of the cross aside from painting, he also dabbles with sculpture and was cited in 1st Sikat Pinoy National Art Fair for his Moriones face mask sculptures. His paintings are remarkably defined by heavy brush strokes which embody his influences of Rembradt, Carravagio, and Rubens works. Tony as e is fondly called by his friends, loves to balance the light and shadow in his art which is one of the main characteristics of these artists. Another influence is Salvador Dali who is known for his surrealist art. Tony is combining both baroque and surrealism techniques and incorporates them in his paintings subsequently liberating him from the classical paintings that he used. Thus, working with steampunk surrealism gives him boundless creativity.
He is a great believer in the saying “Don’t paint what you see but paint what you wanted to see” as he wants all his ideas to come from his own creative thinking and nothing that materializes from photography. Your canvas is your world and you have the power to do anything with it.
