Gallery Genesis, with great pride, presents its 35th iteration of the annual invitational art competition Kulay sa Tubig, to choose the Top 5 Philippine Watercolorists. The event is highly anticipated by artists, audiences, and collectors alike, eager to witness artists aspiring to hone their craft and push the envelope of visual art. By bringing talented artists together in the name of the medium, the prestigious competition perseveres in championing the beloved medium of watercolor.

Recognized as the country’s most prestigious watercolor competition, the landscape of watercolor has truly flourished since Kulay sa Tubig was initiated in 1983. At the time, watercolor used to be considered as a lesser kind of form, which was only apt for studies or drafts. Gallery Genesis founders took on the mission to upgrade the importance of the medium by showcasing annually the medium’s aesthetic nuances unique to itself: the luminosity of light, finesse of each stroke, and the fluid movement of pigment. It is now recognized in the same level as oil as a medium as to importance and value.

Kulay sa Tubig’s 35th iteration surely promises a phenomenal array of works, and the pleasure of introducing five more Top Philippine Watercolorists into the pantheon of Philippine art.

About Gallery Genesis

Very few entities in the Philippine art scene can lay claim to being a pioneer of some sort — in a way that most would agree really paved the way for homegrown artists to be recognized and held in high acclaim both locally and internationally.

Established in 1981 by Mrs. Araceli ‘Chichi’ Salas, a noted and well-respected art collector, Gallery Genesis became the entity that discovered and introduced new & very talented artists and helped them nurture and build their careers.

In keeping up with changes in technology and how people all over the world interact, Gallery Genesis opted to be more actively involved in the arts by shifting to digital platforms for greater public coverage of its artsrelated activities. But now on it’s 42nd year, the gallery has once again reopen its doors at the 2/F Estancia Mall, Capital Commons, Ortigas Center, Pasig City with its mission and vision continue to be the same — that is to promote culture and uplift local artists in the Philippine art scene.
