CLUB DREDD
The Avenue, FP Felix Ave., Cainta, Rizal

More than a SPIN, from Gapo to Manila

“Who’s spinning tonight?” I’ve heard the lady asked her boyfriend while people start arriving at the venue.

My friend, who overheard the query from the couple, asked me too, “Oops, what does that mean? SPIN? Do we get high on drugs making this place look like it is literally spinning?”

“Well, probably. But with me, music is enough vibe and natural high.” I stressed.

“ Hell yeah! Digs!” then shouted, “Hey Mr. DJ, SPIN that HOUSE! “

The disc jockey/deejay/D.J./ DJ who played recorded music to his captive audience that night was Kyle Garon. Born and raised in Olongapo City, Zambales, Carlos Kristofer Garon II, is no rookie to the scene. He started playing music since 2004 but was unable to get the chance to pursue it. Not until 2009, when he decided to go back to his hometown to start anew. He finally decided to get a job, ended up at a Club hosting RAVE, events etc. But he had no idea what mixing was all about. He thought it was just press and play.

When he applied at Club Atmosphere, he met his mentor (who started as a bartender then became an opener set DJ in Sibil ), equipped with House and Progressive music. He got him curious. Garon narrated, “House really caught my attention. I asked my mentor where he got these recordings. There are tons of tracks which I really like and there were times that I requested him to play it. I asked him if i can get a copy but he said no. After a month of watching, studying and learning the basics, eager creating my own techniques, and by proving that I am really being into it, he said that I need to give him several blank CD’S and he will give me some of his old tracks so I can start practicing on my own. I started with Sexy House- the groovy type. I’ve devised my own music playback with House, Vocal, Deep, Tech, Sexy, and Progressive.”

Garon admitted that being a newbie back then, he really did not have access to sources and did not have enough money to purchase blank CD’s. He continued, “My mentor finally told me that he buys tracks in Manila. I rest my case. And I just savoured being here in Olongapo. That time, we were using Denon DNS 3000 and CDJ 100′ S at the club. I am very proud to say that ours was a good start.”

With the genuine desire of promoting, sharing, spreading and continuing to play house music using the old school turntables, his top influences are his forebears, so to speak , with a long list from Tiesto, Armin van Buuren, Deadmau5, Ritchie Hawtin, Ali Shirazinia a.k.a. Dubfire, Stefano Noferini, Uros Umek or simply Umek, Dr.Kucho, Wise D & Kobe, Joris Voorn, DJ Meme, Claptone, Ryan Raddon a.k.a. Kaskade, Roland Clark, DJ Hector Fonseca, Gabriel Rocha a.k.a. DJ PP, DJ Sneak, Todd N. Terry, Frankie Knuckles, Crazibiza, Alex Kenji, Abel Ramoz, Joey Negro, Roger Sanchez, Heidi-dj, Paco Osuna, Mladen Solomun, Marshall Jefferson, Matthias Paul a.k.a. Paul Van Dyk, Above and Beyond, to labels like; Ministry of Sound, Defected ,Suara, Tone Def Records, and to our local djs namely; Elmer Dado, Cocoy Puyat and Herb Cabral.

Today, being a DJ/ Production Director of Culture Shock Events Team which he co-founded in Olongapo City., Sr. Administrative Logisitics at Viberoom and radio host at viberadio, Kyle has been spinning at Cafe Balooga, Club V, Brad’s Bistro, Naval Station Bar and other venues around Gapo. He still wishes to link the Olongapo disc jocks with the Manila scene.

Gratefully, the “legendary” CLUB DREDD, (who is back, sporting a new image and on its new site but still holds true to its concept of being a venue to Pinoy musicians) will have an evening of deep |techno|house this Friday, August 14, 2015, from 8pm until 2am. Admission is FREE.

So, when one would ask, “Who’ll be spinning at CLUB DREDD on Friday night?” I would reply, “ Kyle Garon, proudly from Gapo. Filipino. ”
