Sa Piging Ng Payaso. The biggest get together ever of jesters, pierrots, harlequins and Scaramouch from all over the Metropolis. Sa Piging Ng Payaso is basically an art exhibit showcasing artworks of harlequins, jesters, clowns etc done by twenty-two artists from different genres and disciplines but bound by a single viewfinder: post-modern steampunk.

Steampunk was a post-modern genre of art that incorporates technology and aesthetic designs inspired by 19th-century industrial steam-powered machinery. Although it was only established last 2002, Steampunk works were often set in an alternative universe of the 19th century’s British Victorian era or American “Wild West” and in our case 19th century Manila, in a time during which steam power had maintained mainstream usage, or in a fantasy world that similarly employed steam power. In a nutshell, futuristic from the point of view of the Steampunk Indios. An altered history, how can one be more surrealistic than that.

The 22 thinking tinkers are Anthony Lizano Jandusay, Arviemar Apulog, Bimbo Santos, Bonnie Jimenez, Brando Borcelis, Bryan John Gonzales, Chinnich Candao, Dennis De Jesus, Ding Royales, Edgar Jose, Erasmos Talosig, Gerlie Mae Urbano, Harryn Torres, Izh Berida, Jesse Hands Esplana, Jun Tivi, Kirt Christopher, Nestor Ong, Rene Canlas, Rodel Rillera, Ronald Millevo and Roy Abihay

The art pageant will be opening on Saturday April 6, 6pm at the Walls Gallery, Triumph Square, Quezon Avenue, Quezon City. The opening night will almost be a carnivale of senses, a synesthesia of various stimuli which will bombard the lucky or unlucky spectator (depending on how one will take it) from all directions. Visualize more than 40 pieces of post modern artworks. Anticipate steampunks and jesters roaming and jostling around. Imagine sumptuous food and booze. Envision music, spoken words, and performance art.
