One Year in One Minute Video Contest

“ONE YEAR IN ONE MINUTE”A video contest commemorating the 1 year mark since Typhoon Haiyan / Yolanda

 

The United Nations Communications Group (UNCG), a partnership of United Nations agencies, is calling for submissions of 1-minute videos to commemorate the one-year mark since Super Typhoon Haiyan (locally known as Yolanda) hit the central Philippines on November 8, 2013.The contest is designed to raise awareness on the progress and efforts in the recovery and rehabilitation process of Haiyan-affected families and communities, as well as remind people of the hardship still faced by the many who have suffered great losses.

Videos submitted for “One Year in One Minute” (#1yearin1minute, and #Haiyan1in1) should tell a story about a direct or indirect experience with Typhoon Haiyan in no more than (1) minute. These stories should be about an affected individual or group, who received support on their path to recovery.

Entries should capture peoples’ voices, be memorable, creative and contain an uplifting message for the future.

 

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Eligibility

Individuals must be above 18 years old regardless of location.

Employees of the United Nations are not eligible to join the competition, as well as their immediate relatives.

 

RULES AND REGULATIONS

  1. The “One Year in One Minute” Contest (“Contest”) requires entrants to create a short video, of 1 minute in length that demonstrates how Typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda (“Typhoon”) affected someone and how they have recovered.
  2. Entrants must upload their videos on YouTube/Vimeo/Youku, and videos must have the following file name format: [title in English]-[last name of contestant]-[first name of contestant] for easy identification.
  3. Entrants must send an email to haiyan1in1.ph@undp.org with “Haiyan – One Year in One Minute” in the subject line. Message body must include the following information: Full Name, Date of Birth, Email Address, Mobile or Landline number(s), City and Country, Title of Video, and Youtube/Vimeo or Youku link to video.
  4. Entrants who cannot be reached or who remove their entry from the chosen video platform prior to the announcement of semi-finalists will be automatically disqualified.
  5. Entrants may use any type of film or photo technology to complete their entry, including but not limited to video, mobile camera, web camera, photography, animation and artwork.
  6. Submitted videos must be in MPEG4 format. Selected semi-finalists may be requested to submit better quality files.
  7. The Contest is not specifically intended for new videos or videos made solely for the Contest.
  8. The videos may be presented in any language. However, non-English videos must either already have English subtitles or the Entrant will be required to provide the translation in an additional word document indicating also the exact video time of the translated text.
  9. Entrants are required to obtain permission from persons other than themselves appearing in the video in the form of a written and signed consent that includes a scanned image of the person’s ID.
  10. It is the Entrant’s responsibility to ensure that all materials used in the video—including but not limited to music, footage, and images—are clear of any copyright or intellectual property violations. The United Nations Communications Group will not be liable for any infringement on copyright or intellectual property in the video. Submissions may be automatically disqualified if any material in the video is held suspect in this regard and the entrant is unable to provide proof of copyright ownership or consent from the copyright owner to use the material.
  11. The Contest period is 18 September to 31 October 2014.
  12. Following the submission deadline, a jury comprised of a Government official, a United Nations official, a journalist, a filmmaker, and an Academia representative will select 20 semi-finalists among the 30 short-listed video entries.
  13. Announcement of the 20 semi-finalists will be posted on the Contest’s webpage and social media channels of the United Nations in the Philippines, while online voting of the 5 winners will occur on the event’s Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/unphilippines.
  14. Semi-finalists and winners will be notified via email regarding the Contest’s results. If no response is given within seven (7) days of the notification (or the prescribed deadline), the winner shall forfeit any and all claims, and automatically be disqualified.
  15. By joining the Contest, Entrants give the United Nations permission to use their personal details and entry without compensation.
  16. The UN obtains the right to show, screen, and/or broadcast all accepted entries, in all media, in whole or in part, without limitation. Except for semi-finalists and winners, Entrants who do not wish for their entry to be shown after the Contest may opt out by submitting a written request.
  17. The United Nations Communications Group will not be responsible or liable for the following:
    • Any problem, loss, or damage due to delay and/or failure in receiving and sending the entry as a result of any network, communication or system interruption or error;
    • Any error, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, site failure or unauthorised access to entries, as a result of the use of one of the possible video platforms and any other inline tools prescribed in uploading submissions; and
    • Any problem, damage or loss of whatever nature to any entrant, or their authorised representatives, resulting from their participation in the Contest.
  18. The United Nations Communications Group reserves the right to cancel, modify, suspend, or delay the Contest in the event of unforeseen circumstances beyond its control.
  19. The United Nations Communications Group reserves the right to change, amend, delete, or add to the terms and conditions of the competition at any time. Entrants may then withdraw their entry on request.
  20. All decisions are final.
  21. The United Nations Communications Group reserves the right to disqualify and remove any Entry deemed inappropriate, offensive, defamatory, or demeaning to the Unite Nations or any other party’s reputation or goodwill.
  22. Semi-finalists will be notified by e-mail, express mail, and/or phone and shall be required to complete an affidavit or declaration of eligibility/liability release and, except where prohibited, a publicity release and such other documents as may be required by the United Nations to protect its right to air and use the Entries freely.
  23. Required documents must be signed and received within 5 days of the date printed on the semi-finalist notification. The United Nations is not responsible for and shall not be liable for late, lost, misdirected, or unsuccessful efforts to notify semi-finalists or winners. Entrants who are unable to reply to the notification and provide the required documents will be disqualified and replaced with the next high-scoring Entrant.
