Mark your calendars! Join the episode 24 of the Intramuros Learning Sessions with art conservator Nina Ynion.
Leoncio Asuncion was named the “Father of Modern Religious Sculpture” by the National Historical Institute. His santos, particularly the Sto. Niño, Santo Cristo, Crucifixion, and La Purisima Corazon, exemplify the various cultural influences brought about by colonialism. Through the application of the three strata method of Erwin Panofsky, the researcher tackles the mixture of Western, Chinese, and local artistic forms, or styles, that resulted in magnificently detailed religious sculptures of Leoncio Asuncion.
