When faced with a phenomenon too immense for the mind to possibly fathom, people turn to science and art. Great strides in imagination have been made in creating visual representations of how the universe came to be and what comprises it.
In pursuit of the elusive Theory of Everything, we’ve come across insights into more earthly matters. Some orchestral symphony has emerged amidst the cacophonous roar of galactic explosions, as clear as the night sky.
The photons that ricochet off of an asteroid or a framed art work both move at the speed of light. The laws of mechanics that govern the layers of Jupiter also underlie the mingling of pigments in paintings. The intricate tangle of entire galaxies resemble the microscopic neural networks of the brain. Even chaos has its place in time and space as we know it.
From a distance, a supernova is but a star to the human eye. The search for order amongst the stars holds the philosophical impetus of searching for meaning in the self. Isn’t art a kindred endeavour into the great unknown?
In “Super Nova”, seventeen artists embark on a journey into our realm of wonder and awe, to present facets of life both unique and universal. Have a glimpse into a multitude of dimensions theorized to exist in metaphor and poetry. One need not peer into a telescope or be well-versed in string theory to recognize this celestial harmony that magnificently demonstrates, time and time again, how the possibilities of art are as infinite as the universe is endless.
