URDUJA was named after the legendary warrior princess and known hero hailing from Pangasinan in the Philippines, and thus standing for the strength and might of women. The band was envisioned to be lead by a female vocalist, ideally possessing a rather innocent look yet able to render powerful vocals and formidable growls.
Agoni Kama Itachi (Raja), the bassist, started looking for members on December 2008. Kei Obusan (Prinsesa), Agoni’s orgmate from UP Tomo-Kai was invited to be the vocalist. Next was Deo Beltran (Datu) who was Agoni’s bandmate from Cathexis. Josh Balagapo (Lakan), Romel’s orgmate from the UP Underground Music Community, became the drummer. To complete the line-up, Victor Faustin Munar (Sultan) who used to be a session guitarist for Cathexis joined the group as the second guitarist.
When Urduja started as a band, they already played for a big crowd during their first gig on the UP Fair 2009.
On July 11, 2010, the band guested in the now defunct NU 107’s In The Raw and gained a pretty good feedback from the listeners. URDUJA’s song Iglap was also chosen as the “Stand Out Track” was played regularly for a week.
Since then, the band’s songs has also been played on UR Faceradio, Rakista Radio and Bootleg Radio.
