Azam Rais is a spoken word artist who focuses on social themes and rhyme schemes. Through his work in arts activism and poetry for social causes, Azam has been featured on prominent Malaysian news outlets AstroAwani, The Star, NST, The Sun, Free Malaysia Today (FMT) and BFM Radio among others. Along with his colleagues, he founded Poet X (@poetxpodcast), Malaysia’s first-ever poetry podcast aimed at progressing the local poetry scene online. Recently, Azam represented Malaysia and was crowned the 2018 Asia-Pacific Poetry Slam Champion at Singapore’s Lit Up Festival. He was also featured at Festival Puitika Penang by Tourism Malaysia, Festival Muzium Nelayan by Dewan Bahasadan Pustaka (DBP), the Dance-Poetry ensemble Ketika Bumiku Menari @ DPAC and PWTC among many others. Azam is passionate about impacting change in communities through his grassroots advocacy in mental health, anti-sexual harassment, anti-child abuse and aspires to inspire younger voices to the stage.
