Start 101 Gallery presents Come Across on March 6, Wednesday, at six o’clock in the evening. Featuring artworks by Erlinda Quimpo, Carmela Geisert, Piaget Martelino and Jes Evangelista, the exhibition gathers the artists’ explorations of paths that they are currently undertaking in life and in art production.
Each artist is aware of the things that life brings every day, whether it is struggle and drudgery, calm and contentment, or bliss and ecstasy. They believe that it is through these experiences that one builds character and maneuvers through challenges as part of expandingone’s awareness. As each person goes through a different journey, it is the elements that make up its fragments that create deep experiences, brining discovery, wonder and growth. With their artworks, they express the learnings that they gather along the way, and what comes across is the manner that each expression communicates directly to the viewer—at times dreamlike, at other times rooted on realities made more interesting.
With her wistful renderings of the sun rising on a quaint fishing village, Erlinda Quimpo uses impressionism to create scenes that convey tranquility, gratefulness, and grace. For Carmela Geisert, paint should be allowed to flow and take shape with inspired freedom and intuitive abstractions that resemble delightful gardens or mysterious vortexes. Piaget Martelino presents his works of limited edition prints of fantastic creatures he formulated from his illustrations of endangered species, serving as reminders of what we stand to lose and man’s responsibility for their protection. With Jes Evangelista’s colorful juxtapositions of shapes and patterns governed by positive and negative spaces, he introduces his multilayered, shaped canvases that are both playful and pensive when seen through different angles.
