Altro Mondo Arte Contemporanea is proud to present IBONG NAPAPARAM, a solo exhibition featuring an installation by LOUIS GUILLAUME. Louis Guillaume is the French laureate for this year’s Alliance Française de Manille Philippine Artist Residency Program.

Ibong Napaparam invites the viewer to wander through different spaces conceived as time capsules. Each of them recalling significant moments in Louis Guillaume’s journey through the Philippines. These realms of projections serve as a nest, a human niche that comprises lived experiences, upon which unstable constructions hold for a time and on which rest a person’s memories.

It’s here where Guillaume shares a fragment of an impermanent history, infused with an exhaustive spectrum of his feelings. The viewer is invited, in turn, to build their impressions on the multiplicity of the elements they’re exposed to, superimposing their own emotions and experiences to form a single moment–as Guillaume did with the sights and sounds he encountered during his month and a half spent in relatively foreign land.

The title Ibong Napaparam joins together the human and the bird into a biped unique to its kind. As in every major capital city, the birds sing early in the morning to signal the flurry of everyday life, giving way to the bustle of people, car horns, engines, scuffing shoes on the shiny basketball court floor.

And for how many more seasons—the migrations, the songs, the dances, the chaos.
