Jayvee David
Opening
8 November 2020
Secret Fresh Gallery
Ronac Art Center, Ortigas Ave, 1502 San Juan, Philippines
Secret Fresh Gallery in cooperation with The Working Animals Art Projects (TWA) opens Jayvee David’s third solo exhibition titled Inside. The works gather what the artist, amid the pandemic situation, realizes as most cherished and valuable in life—memories and experiences that in the pre-pandemic world might seem ordinary, commonplace, or trivial. Like many of us, the current global health crisis has prompted her to reassess her valuation of things, and these works reveal her fresh perspective born out of mobility restriction and indoor confinement.
The paintings mostly depict indoor scenes, with the recurring images of plants both as a relief from uncertainty and as a reminder of outdoor life itself. The images highlight the importance of connection and companionship as a source of joy in these trying times.
Jayvee David attended the Technological University of the Philippines in Manila, taking up Bachelor of Fine Arts major in Advertising. She has participated in numerous group exhibitions since 2012 and held her first solo show in 2018. Her works mostly portray everyday scenes in the domestic to capture moments of struggles, affection, anxiety, and belonging.
This show is curated by Ruel Caasi, in collaboration with the Secret Fresh Gallery X The Working Animals Art Projects (TWA).
The exhibition opens on 8 November at the Six Inch Gallery, Secret Fresh, Ronac Art Center,Ortigas Avenue, San Juan City
