Gigs for
Ms. Anabel Bosch From: lagkat.multiply.com

On the afternoon of January 1, 2009, while watching TV with her daughter and Reg, she had an aneurysm, which then resulted in subsequent massive brain hemorrhage. That night, around 9 PM, she underwent an operation that involved draining the blood clot in order to relieve the pressure on the brain. The surgery was a success. As of this writing (10:29 PM January 2), she is in stable condition, breathing on her own although the doctors are still keeping her on the respirator as a precautionary measure. She is still unconscious, and we are waiting for her to (please, oh please) wake up.
UPDATES ON ANABEL'S CONDITION
from Dr. Marlies Bosch
As of January 8, 11:00 AM
Ironically, although my last update showed positive signs of Anabel's slow recovery, the day after was the start of her dreaded deterioration. Let me back track...
January 6, 2009
Anabel was still breathing well on her own with the T-piece. Her breathing was regular, her O2 saturations were perfect, her blood gases were great. However, a couple of hours after I got home, I received a call from Nadine saying that Anabel's O2 saturations had started going down to as low as 30% as opposed to 100% since admission and went cyanotic (blue, due to the lack of oxygenation). Due to this lack of oxygenation, her heart tried to compensate by increasing its rate to as high as 160s, her blood pressure shot up to as high as 170/110 despite the antihypertensive drip and consequently resulted in more brain edema causing even more pressure on her brain. Her pupils were again anisocoric (not of equal size) due to the compression. Mannitol was then administered to decompress the brain and to diurese her and she responded. Anisocoria decreased, blood pressure was controlled, she was ambubagged for 30 minutes then hooked back onto the respirator. After this event, she no longer had spontaneous breathing. She was completely dependent on the respirator. Her response to pain had significantly decreased and was much delayed than previous. It seemed to us that she was trying her darn best to breathe on her own despite the residual edema in her brain..until she got tired. She was doing more than her body could actually handle. She was fighting, struggling even, to let us all see that she is still who we remember her as - a strong woman. She is, after all, Anaballs. But when fatigue set in, that started the chain of unfortunate events. When she had stabilized, we all went home to rest.
January 7, 2009
I again received a call from Nadine saying that Anabel's blood pressure was dropping to as low as 50/30. She was then started on inotropes (medications to increase her blood pressure). All antihypertensives and medications to decompress the brain were put on hold since these would cause a further decrease in blood pressure. EEG was done which showed 1% of brain activity picked up by the most sensitive setting on the machine. She was no longer responding to painful stimuli. Her pupils were nonreactive. Her heart was racing, a side effect of the medications we were giving to keep her blood pressure up. The respirator was breathing for her. And the words 'brain dead' resonated in my head....
As of today, Anabel remains status quo. She lays there relaxed. Her face is beautiful, peaceful. All medications are being continued in hopes of a miracle. She will be transferred out of the ICU today and placed into a regular room, so that all friends and family members can be at her bedside without much limitation. So I call on all of you whose lives were touched by my dear sister... Come by anytime to hold her hand, whisper love into her ears, play music, read poetry... do the things she loves. The doctor in me says she will join her Creator soon. But the sister in me says, "Please wake up, Anabel. Please. I've done my best to be strong, to keep you here with us, to have another chance to hear you sing, read your words, eat your chili con carne and lasagna, have sister's days and nights out, share intimate secrets, laugh at the most stupid things, swap clothes and shoes, have a manicure and a pedicure together, dye our hair, chat on YM while you're at work... Anabel, I did not call you Anaballs for nothing. You are the woman with balls, with guts..and I gathered my strength from you. You may have not seen me cry in the hospital as much as everybody else. I can't... I have to break the awful news. Everytime I gather people around, it always seems that I'm the bringer of bad news. I am trying to be strong as much as I can..for you, for Mama and Papa, Nadine and Dante, Mishka, Anise, Reg and all your friends. I am devastated. Your sister, Marlies, not the doctor this time, is praying and hoping for a miracle despite all the odds. You are one lucky girl, Anabel. You may have felt alone so many times but this is proof of the overflowing and overwhelming love that so many people have for you. And I can just wish to be even half as lucky as you. I LOVE YOU."
