Philippine Premiere: On The President’s Orders

In commemoration of the anniversary of Martial Law in the Philippines and the centennial of Philippine Cinema, we cordially invite you to the opening of the 7th edition of the Active Vista International Human Rights Film Festival with the much-awaited exclusive screening and Philippine premiere of the film, “On The President’s Orders” by Emmy Award winning filmmakers James Jones and Olivier Sarbil, on September 20, 2019, Friday, 7:00 pm at the Cine Adarna, University of the Philippines Film Center, UP Diliman, Quezon City.

‘On The President’s Orders’ is the searing story of President Duterte’s bloody campaign against drug dealers and addicts in the Philippines, told with unprecedented and intimate access to both sides of the war. The screening of this important documentary resists the act of erasure against the 27,000 lives lost in this War against Drugs by courageously telling their stories. It is in this context that Active Vista hopes that with your presence, the stories shared with you carry on to build empathy and spark collaborative change.

This one-time free screening is strictly by invitation only. Pre-registration is required for all confirmed guests. Kindly read the details below for guidance in the registration process.

We look forward to your presence in the screening. See you at the Active Vista Festival Opening!

“In this explosive cinematic investigation, directors James Jones and Olivier Sarbil get alarmingly close to the battle for the streets and soul of the Philippines. Their cameras stand before both sides — the victimised slum communities and the police squads blithely executing their countrymen from a perverse moral high ground. The staggering visions of violence, shot with a kinetic slickness and immediacy, are so electrifying that viewers will have to remind themselves: this is happening now, this is real.”

“Shot with the stark precision and chiaroscuro tones of a Michael Mann film, James Jones and Olivier Sarbil’s On The President’s Orders would be one of the most harrowing escapist thrillers of the year if it weren’t for the somber realisation that the horror captured is entirely, apocalyptically real.”
