Artist Statement

In this series of works, a new window has opened for me to see another perspective of life. I am currently playing basketball for the the Philippine Basketball Association and I have learned so many things about my existence—along with my role as a husband and as a father to two daughters.
Art is a passion I have had since childhood, that got sidetracked as I grew older, but spending time with artist friends around me made me rediscover my freedom to express my dialogue. Jigger Cruz is the biggest influence in my art. He encouraged me and made me feel I can do anything I want as long as I put my heart in it.
The title of the show, “Rookie Mistake”, is an honest attempt to portray emotions on canvas using heavy textures. It has been a journey for me to expand and digest every simple moment of creating these paintings. Mistakes and satisfaction are both important ingredients of every single form to layer sensations.
