Sounds and Poetry of the Streets: Philippine Expressive Popular Cultures is organized by Ethnographies of Philippine Auditory Popular Cultures (EPAPC), a research group comprised of scholars from the Ateneo de Manila University and University of the Philippines-Diliman. EPAPC is a grantee of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA)-SALIKHA Creative Grants.

The conference aims to investigate and celebrate the performative and sensorial aspects of everyday practices and experiences and the transformative ways of contemplating and apprehending them. It provides a venue for sharing new knowledge and understanding that will impact discussions of popular culture in higher education in the Philippines. Drawing from local case studies and beyond, scholars demonstrate how everyday performances and sensory experiences indicate and constitute historically-specific social, cultural and political formations and transformations. The three-day event includes:

1. Keynote and panel presentations on the following themes: consumption and production of popular music; histories, ethnographies and the politics of musical genres and performances; sights and sounds of the street; emotion and embodiment in popular culture.
2. Performances featuring local bands.
3. Launch of a documentary film on Pinoy hip-hop, “Usapang Hip-Hop: Ambagan sa Eksena at Kultura.”
4. Philippine launch of the book Dangerous Mediations
5. A half-day workshop on teaching popular culture.
