Breaking barriers with their music, the one and only Talahib People’s Music will once again represent the Philippines on the global stage! Talahib will be making strides for ‘Musikang Pilipino’ this year as they are signed in Japan to record a full-length vinyl album and set for an Asian music tour.
Talahib is one of the few Filipino performing groups that has proudly represented the Philippines in numerous recently held international music festivals. Formed in 2000, the group brings with them a musical fusion of folk, rock, and world music, resonating with local culture and social relevance. The UNESCO Clubs of the Philippines honored Talahib with the Most Outstanding Cultural Workers award in 2019.
Talahib’s recent line-up, with their longtime artist manager and Musika Publiko coordinator Jaime Hernandez at the helm, headlined a back-to-back tour at the Taiwan World Music Festival in Taipei and the Pasiwali Festival Taiwan in Taitung in 2022.
The group frequents Taiwan, joining the M.I.K. Festival Taiwan in Kaoshiung and the Austronesian Arts and Music Festival in Hualien City in April 2024—a trip that was made memorable by a strong earthquake. Before the pandemic, they were one of the artists performing at Miss Universe Catriona Gray’s homecoming at the Araneta Center.
In all of their musical engagements, from the Gandingan Awards to the Banahaw tugtugan, to the yearly Fete De La Musique Philippines and International Silent Film Festivals, and even in Araneta Center and international festivals, the one-and-only Talahib is fearless in echoing pressing issues in the country: land for the tillers, sovereignty, protecting the environment and indigenous peoples ancestral lands and communities, and just and lasting peace.
From Tony Palis’ Babaylan to their own Magkaisa sa Kapayapaan, Dam, and Domdoma, Talahib’s musical arrangements, digital releases, and live performances are uniquely Filipino. Experience their fiery folk rock, uniquely weaved with indigenous instruments.
