Formed in 1999 in Cavite, Lakbay Lahi’s roots can be found in De La Salle University Dasmariñas. Majority of the individuals who gave rise to the band were students from the DLSU-D Mountaineering Society, as well the La Salle Filipiniana Dance Company. Numerous performances as a loose, open group went by before Lakbay Lahi’s core group was finally formed. Its current lineup is a collective of individuals engaged in the field of sound, performance, visual and literary arts. Combining these disciplines, Lakbay Lahi, tries to bring about this innate feeling of oneness between man and music…between soul and sound.
Lakbay Lahi (Racial Journey) is built on the philosophy that deep satisfaction from sound is something innate…inborn. For the span of 9 months that every human has spent inside the womb of their mother, they have, consciously or unconsciously, been listening to the music of LIFE – wiggling themselves inside the small confines of the placenta as the hearts of their loving mothers continuously beat. Creating a never ending solo concerto of a ‘percussionist’, stopping the performance would mean death to the ‘musician’ and/or the ‘listener’ as well.
