This October 15th, we are launching WSK X with “The SINE WAVE ORCHESTRA stay,” an interactive sound exhibition by Sine Wave Orchestra of Japan.

In this participatory exhibit, the space begins as an inanimate room filled with 49 spiral-shaped columns of copper wire. Each visitor is invited to put the exhibit into motion by installing into the columns a small device which can play a sine wave, giving the audience the liberty to choose its frequency and to contribute to the exhibition’s final outcome.

Artist Talk

Concurrent with the exhibition, the four artists comprising The Sine Wave Orchestra — Ken Furudate, Kazuhiro Jo, Daisuke Ishida, and Mizuki Noguchi — will give an artist talk.

The artist talk will delve into their individual practices, both in art and academia, and interests which encompass a diverse range of subjects including acoustics, contemporary and time-based media, minimalist aesthetics, practice-based research, the expressive dimension of recent technology, the perception of sound, and new perspectives on spatialities. They will also talk about the history of The Sine Wave Orchestra: its genesis, philosophy, methodologies, and previous multimedia installations and other projects, as well as the exhibit “The SINE WAVE ORCHESTRA stay”: its conceptualization, iterations, and manifestations.

WSK X is supported by 国際交流基金アジアセンター The Japan Foundation Asia Center under the Grant Program for Promotion of Cultural Collaboration.
