How does one chart the boundaries of a person? Between two, there are walls of curious make: fresh, crumbling, false, permeable, encompassing. And all the time shifting. At any moment, a door opens with scratches from one side, a room is entombed with lime and slag, a breath treads still corridors. And there they are, cartographers in futility.
Between them, the whole world is arranged on the shelves. They scour the forests for splinters, the buildings for pebbles, the oceans for shells, and draw the memories of selves from them. Artificers, building the outside in tenths and twelfths scale, as natural as the mimicry of hungry things lying in wait, enough to replay every song and sigh. Wanting record and reckoning, the task could only be incomplete. Meanwhile, the wallpaper blooms a lovely blue.
Of course, there is the outside, and with it comes eyes. Here is a seat at the table, and two pairs watch back.
