Filipinas: Portraits of Thirty Outstanding Filipino Women by Isa Lorenzo
Organized in collaboration with the Permanent Delegation of the Republic of the Philippines to UNESCO
Thirty exceptional Filipina women were photographed by Isa Lorenzo. These women come from all walks of life: they are mothers, teachers, writers, artists, lawyers, doctors, diplomats, civic workers, and public servants who have shaped their professions and communities and who have helped create the cultural fabric of their times. These are the patrons and advocates, the spokespersons and activists, as well as the anonymous defenders who contributed to the Philippine culture and left their imprint on the collective memory of Filipinos as a people.
The thirty women are: Teresita Ang-See, Helena Z. Benitez, Gilda Cordero-Fernando, Virginia Oteyza De Guia, Fe Del Mundo, Nena Del Rosario-Villanueva, Ameurfina M. Herrera, Alice P. “All my life, I have been fascinated by the Filipina, how she holds power within our societal system, how she manages this power by quietly taking on pivotal roles, and how she uses this power to eventually come into her own, says” Isa Lorenzo
The result of her individual journey is what I am interested in: the strong, timeless Filipina with a humanity that transcends history and legacy.
FILIPINAS: Photographs by Isa Lorenzo was first exhibited in the
Cultural Center of the Philippines in 2006 and has made the rounds of
various Universities in Manila. In February of 2007, the show was
brought to the UNESCO House in Paris, France for the celebration of
International Women's Day.
FILIPINAS has since been made into a book, which is available at Powerbooks, Fully Booked, Booktrends, Popular Bookstore, Rustans and Travel Cafe. For orders and other inquiries, call 8160044, 09052650873 or email manage@silverlensphoto.com.

What are the institutions that inflence Filipino women?
