Free of encumbrance, an imaginary utopia occupies the mind of artist, Geovanni Abing, as he traverses his subconscious and discovers wonderment in the escape from mental curbs and the physical realm.
“Where We Are Not” dives into the abyss of Abing’s candid introspection on perceiving refuge from reality. The artist depicts an ethereal world where one can willingly wander through various domains of fantasy hinged on the familiar. With collage, acrylic, and spray paint as his choice of media, Abing collects and combines nostalgic images, and juxtaposes these in scenic landscapes and animated voids. Each dimension illustrates a variety of emotions, some passionate, calm, and eccentric. Collectively, the artworks map out a personalized and distinctive labyrinth of the artist’s psyche.
Abing and his artworks urge the self to contemplate on individual quietude, realizing where placid movement can flow through internally, both mental and emotional, may it be in the terrains of where we are, or where we are not.
