The province of Zamboanga del Norte is placed under Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ) starting today, 01 June, 2021, because of the soaring high of positive Covid-19 cases. How it affects us as residents of the place depends upon how the person puts himself in this certain kind of situation. Going back more than a century, when Dr. Jose Rizal was fatefully exiled here in the province, (the Zamboanga peninsula, and the not yet divided province into Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, and Zamboanga Sibugay), could be considered as being put into lockdown. His exile, particularly in Dapitan for four years and fourteen days, from 17 July 1892 to 31 July 1896, enabled him to be put into lockdown in the very secluded place where there was no means of communication like internet connections we have nowadays.

His banishment does not prevent him from being locked down in his own self cocoon or at the confines of the four corners of a certain room. He wisely made use of his time to go out, reach to the Dapitanons seeking whatever he could do to help the town folks. This webinar brings us back how he spent his exemplary life in Dapitan. This webinar aims to inculcate each Filipino particularly the Dapitanons, awareness and appreciation of the noble deeds and ideals of our heroes especially Dr. Jose Rizal who was exiled in the place. The purpose of this webinar is in line with the mission of the NHCP which is to instil pride in the Filipino race and to rekindle the Filipino Spirit through the lessons of history.
