“Sometimes, we’re all just tired of being strong for too long. We may even feel the fire that drives us seems to be slowly fading, but as long as there’s a fire within ourselves, there’s still light. ”
Marvin Dalisay (1989) is a self-taught artist based in Banate, Iloilo. Living in a simple and quaint city without access to many resources helped him become more innovative. Using a gas lamp smoke became his art style over time. Dalisay’s intention in his works is for his audience to feel the fire in everything that they do in life even when sometimes the fire fades, people have to learn how to survive and see that even a spark can serve as the light that inspires them to move forward with life.
For the show, his collection shows that looking at things with a mature and responsible perspective despite the cruelty of this world does not always come with age. In his piece “Let There Be Light”, the piece shows how children get through life and no matter how gruesome the world might be, one can always call on God if they are not able to handle the situation anymore.
Marvin has shown his talent in various exhibitions in and outside of his town. In 2015, he won the Grand Prize at Regional Titus Pen on the spot ballpen art contest and Semi-Finalist in Metrobank Arts and Design Excellence in 2018 and now for his First Solo Exhibition with Art Verite.
