Anthony Jandusay
Solo Exhibition
Opening Reception
18 May 2023
Casa de Don Emilio
10 de Oktubre Street, Boac in Marinduque
Anthony “Tony” Jandusay, the artist, fondly remembers the many Flores de Mayo he experienced while growing up in Boac, Marinduque. For him, May is one of the merriest months to stay in Boac. Those unforgettable afternoons were spent together forging friendships and camaraderie with the participants of the Flores and sharing meaningful time in church. The ritual of offering flowers remains etched in his memory, reminding him of the explosion of colors, the fragrant scents, and the ephemeral beauty of flowers. This exhibit is a homage to those memorable times.
The paintings in the Flores de Mayo collection showcase how the artist painstakingly captured the intricacies, fragilities and temporariness of flowers. The partiality to the impasto technique of this collection is clear. The play of light, the broad brush strokes and the three-dimensional rendering contributed to the dynamism and emotional quality of the paintings. The artist returns to his classical roots.
This homecoming exhibit is his first solo show in Boac, Marinduque. His reputation as an artist was first established in Metro Manila and then abroad. He received an award for his painting interpreting the literary work of an esteemed writer based in the US. He has joined numerous group shows together with prominent Filipino artists. Two of his paintings were featured in a book published in India. He is one of the semi- finalists in the ongoing Philippine Art Awards.
The show’s venue is at the Casa de Don Emilio, 10 de Oktubre Street, Boac in Marinduque. This exhibit marks a milestone in the history of Casa de Don Emilio, a heritage restaurant serving heirloom cuisine. More exhibits are planned in the future. (Excerpt from the curatorial text by Timmy Magalang)
