Jay Lorenz Conanan is a multi-hyphenated cultural worker who has built a body of work in theatre and film design, while honing a keen interest in technology and the changes, shifts, and crises these create for those involved in the making of performances, as well as those who remain interested in our notions of humanity.
He won the 2019 BroadwayWorld Philippines Best Costume Designer and was a delegate for 2019 Festival International de théatre de Mont-Laurier in Quebec, Canada. He was also chosen to represent the Philippines as a student jury at the SETKANI International Theater Festival in Czech Republic in 2016.
He designed several productions such as the sets for Palasyo ni Valentin, Mga Misteryo ng Liwanag, and Dante and costumes for Madagascar Manila, Oedipus, Romeo and Juliet, and Monty Phyton’s Spamalot and also worked as associate costume designer for Eric Pineda (Newsies, Kinky Boots, M Butterfly), Raven Ong (Matilda, Waitress), and Gino Gonzales (Makbet).
He graduated Magna Cum Laude with Bachelor of Arts in Production Design from De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde and is currently taking up Master of Arts in Theatre Arts at the University of the Philippines Diliman and a faculty member of Benilde’s Production Design Program.
