An experience-focused fair, Komura; is a haven for deep and honest exchange of curiosities and a platform to showcase and explore the possibilities of literature and storytelling. The 3rd annual book fair will be held on May 18, 2019 (11AM – 11PM) at Warehouse Eight, La Fuerza compound, Makati City.
This year, Komura; aims to address the issue of women representation in the literary and publishing industry. To strengthen the presence of the female identity, Komura; will only feature women in the book fair. All our publishers, writers, and art merchants will be women; the musicians playing at Echoes PH will be women; and finally, we will be featuring women video game developers and filmmakers at Pixel.
We will be having pocket events throughout the fair to show that storytelling comes in many different forms, whether it may be through music, film, or games.

#KomuraBookFair2019 #WarehouseEight #IsipKwago
Komura; created a book fair back in 2017 that wasn’t focused on just selling books at discounted rates, it was more of a gathering of people that connected all types of storytelling communities from tech, art, print, design, poetry and music.
For Komura; Book Fair 2019 we’re putting a spotlight on women creators, writers, musicians, game developers, musicians and all types of artists, but everyone is welcome to join in and discover local works and talents!
Always aiming to fill a need and be a platform for voices in the creative and literature industry, come celebrate different forms of femininity with us!
POCKET EVENTS
A Curated Shelf Conversations: Ani Almario
A collaboration between Comma and Kwago, A Curated Shelf is a platform for critical and playful conversations about publications and publishing as a discursive practice. A Curated Shelf wishes to address a wide range of questions on the relevance and scope of publishing. To understand the many ways we read, write and publish, the program is a series of two-month exhibitions with corollary events that respond to the selection.
For our second Curated Shelf, we invited Ani Rosa Almario to assemble and exhibit fifteen publications that she would require her own kids to read.
Ani Almario got her MA in Education from Stanford University. She is the co-founder of The Raya School and executive director of Adarna House.
Solidarity Meetup
Learning more about each other’s story and struggle is the key to empathy and solidarity. Encouraging all of us to listen to each other, to find congruences over dissonance and connect despite our differences.
Organized a SOLIDARITY MEETUP on May 18 at Komura; Book Fair 2019! Feminist publisher Gantala Press is talking about women writers and writing in the Philippines, feminist mom and Preen Online columnist Marla Darwin is opening up conversations on feminism at home, while writer and Kwago founder Czyka Tumaliuan, creative coder and teacher Gladys Regalado and historian and professor Mary Josefti Nito are going to share their digital library project KOPYA and the importance of transdisciplinary collaborations in the meetup!
