Collective 88 Art is pleased to present another exhibition featuring new works by a young emerging Filipino artist, Luis Lopa.

Apophenia /æpɵˈfiːniə/ is defined as the experience of perceiving patterns or connections in meaningless data.

In contrast to an epiphany, an apophany (an instance of apophenia) does not provide insight into the reality or essential meaning of something. Instead, it is a process of repetitively and monotonously experiencing abnormal meanings in the experiential field. It has come to imply the human tendency to seek patterns in random information.

In many ways, our lives are a result of an accretion of unrelated fragments of data that we then weave into our realities. We go through great lengths to experience things, and even greater lengths to assign meaning to those experiences.

We pick aspects of the noise in order to create a picture that fits with our vision.
