Toward a Theory of Everything and Nothing: A Study on Dolphy’s Comic Mind
September 5 (Monday), 2:30-4:30pm, Little Theater
In-charge: Department of International Studies

Nothing will ever satisfy one with a tragic mind. But to the comic mind, everything is already satisfactory-without even asking for it.  This is the case in Dolphy’s situation comedies where the rich suffer from luxury while the poor enjoy their poverty because wealth is burdensome. Dolphy’s comic performance highlights how nothingness can bring everything while everything needs such nothingness. Such is the force of Dolphy’s comic mind–it points out how laughter can make the meaningful senseless.

Arts and Business Innovation
September 6 (Tuesday), 9:00-12:00nn, Marian Auditorium
In-charge: College of Business, Entrepreneurship and Accountancy

This activity celebrates Filipino ingenuity through ideation of business ventures with social impact.  Participants will be divided into teams and be guided on the ideation to prototyping. Students will be invited to pitch and present product prototypes to social entrepreneurs the next day (Sept. 7).

Cultivating Attunement, Inner Composure, and Resilience Through Intermodal Arts
September 7 (Wednesday), 9:00-12:00nn, ESI
In-charge: Department of Psychology

In line with the Miriam College theme this school year, “Mighty at 90!”, the Department of Psychology offers this activity on championing the internal strength of a person. This 3-hour workshop is an introduction on how to be more mindful of one’s thoughts and emotions and on how to offer a friendly attitude towards one’s experiences in life. It also provides some basic experiential exercises through intermodal arts on cultivating inner composure and resilience that the individuals may be able to apply in their day-to-day encounters. Intermodal arts-based activities make use of various art modalities such as movement, visual arts, creative writing, and music.
