Elemento is an art music ensemble that is known for their different kind of music and also their different kind of musical instruments.
The group uses self-made musical instruments that are made from stainless steel, kitchen utensils and other electronic and insdustrial hardware. These self-made musical instruments are called “sandatas” or weapon, are essentially sculptural art pieces that also double as functional musical instruments and as sound effects , noise producing machines. The sandatas were created by Lirio Salvador.
The musical style that Elemento plays can be described as art music, their music compositions and sound peices are a mix of improvisational free-form pieces, experimental and avante garde, sound art and noise, and also musical compositions with structure, arrangements, movements and sections.
The group was formed in 1996, and has already performed on different concerts, events and art galleries, both here in the Philippines and other countries.
Elemento is Jonjie Ayson and Gilbert Sanchez with Kaloy Olavidez and Jon Romero.
Lirio Salvador remains as the group’s shining light.
