“It Is What It Is” is Nikko Pelaez’s First Solo Exhibition aimed as a showcase of contemporary portraits fashioned with his signature use of colorful shapes and lines. It tells the process of self-reconstruction, acceptance, and moving forward; inviting his viewers to contemplate the existence of one’s self.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

John Nikko Pelaez (b. 1995) is a multi-disciplinary visual artist from Malabon City who studied Fine Arts at the University of the East-Caloocan, Major in Advertising Arts. His works are a combination of representational subjects and outline illustrations, usually made as an exploration of personal issues and life experiences.

Apart from exhibiting in local shows frequently, he’s received numerous accolades in different art competitions such as the Grand Prize at the 2015 Manila Bulletin Sketch Fest, the 2016 Vision Petron Competition in both Painting and T-Shirt Design Categories, and the 2018 Vans Custom Culture Asia Competition. In 2016, he was also awarded Artist of the Year by the University of the East and grabbed a spot as a National Finalist in the 2019 Metrobank MADE Competition.
