To celebrate the month of love, and as part of the monthly “Les Jeudis Culturels” (“Cultural Thursdays”), the Embassy of France to the Philippines and the Alliance française de Manille, in cooperation with the French Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines, present “Je t’aime: An Online Concert of French Love Songs” on February 25, 2021, featuring the Project 201 Jazz Quartet and jazz singer Faye Yupano.

With the continued enforcement of a community quarantine in the Philippines due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and following the success of its three previous monthly virtual events since November 2020, the French Embassy continues to carry out its cultural program online in order to promote cultural exchanges between France and the Philippines.

This month, the French Embassy has invited the Project 201 Jazz Quartet, led by award-winning Filipino saxophonist Michael Mark Guevarra, alongside pianist Ayman Linzag, percussionist Chico Macorol, and bassist Prince Santiago, to perform a repertoire of well-loved French chansons, including “La Vie en rose,” “Ne me quitte pas,” “Les Feuilles mortes” (“Autumn Leaves”), and “C’est si bon,” among many others.

Project 201 is a big band composed of students from the College of Music of the University of the Philippines, Diliman. Created by Guevarra in May 2017, the group aims to provide an avenue for young, aspiring jazz musicians in the college to integrate themselves into the industry and perform alongside established musicians in the country.

Joining Project 201 as a special guest performer is Filipina jazz singer and vocal coach, Faye Yupano.

French dinner to support a cause

This latest edition of Cultural Thursdays is organized in partnership with the French Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines and the Tasting Club, which will be offering a special French dinner menu for the benefit of the France Philippines United Action Foundation (FPUA).

Created following the passage of Supertyphoon Yolanda in the Philippines in 2013, the FPUA is engaged in long-term rehabilitation and reconstruction projects for Filipino communities affected by natural disasters. Through partnerships with local associations such as Habitat for Humanity Philippines and the Philippine Red Cross, and through the financial contributions of French and Philippines companies, FPUA has succeeded in building sustainable and resilient communities in three remote areas in Cebu, and has supported hundreds of families by providing scholarships and implementing health programs.

This month, the Tasting Club offers a set meal of Guinea Fowl Supreme with Raisin Sauce and Gratin dauphinois and Chocolate Éclair, accompanied by Château Kirwan 2013, AOC Margaux for PHP 1,350 (exclusive of delivery fee). 10% of the total proceeds will be donated to the FPUA.

Registration link will be available soon.

See you at our virtual concert, and happy month of hearts!
