Mimi Viola is a prolific creative. She has a multidisciplinary body of work composed mainly of design projects that merge intimately with her artistic learnings. Most of what she does is experimental in that it takes the audience in an environment that provokes emotion and diverse reactions through total immersion.
Viola’s piece for the Open House entitled “The Irreverent Persuasion of the Flesh” is a sculptural piece created using copper, cut out pieces of plastic wrapped in canvas and embellished with beads. It is the first piece out of a trilogy about the 3 temptations of Jesus Christ while he fasted for 40 days in the dessert. “The Irreverent Persuasion of the Flesh” emphasises gratification of the flesh, desires, and hedonism. The serpent also represents the first tempter at the Garden of Eden.
