MAMUSA ART GALLERY is pleased to present ALEXANDER ESPAÑOLA’S 6TH solo art exhibit entitled PERSONIFORMS

Human civilization is marked by a language system based on signs, symbols, and codes where information is stored and passed on to the next generation.

Throughout the course of history, a system of writing has been part of every unique culture for societies to make sense of the world. These observations about human phenomenon are recorded and stored through various forms such as the Laguna Copperplate, ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs, stone tablets, and Sumerian cuneiforms.

In contemporary times where socio-political and economic structures are subjected to the rigors of new and emerging technologies, digitalization of human activities is the new terra incognita. Through this virtual space called the Internet, individuals in the physical space can adopt online personalities, avatars, and personas. These online personas, in one way or another, reflect our individual behavior and traits. Likewise, this alternate space has given us a sense of power and autonomy outside the physical space.

Social, behavioral, political scientists, economists, and academics have turned their attention on the ongoing 2022 election campaign where technology, politics and economics intertwine and synergize into an emerging counter-cultural movement that pose a big threat to old, traditional, inefficient, and exploitative systems.

Not only acting as a witness, but also responding to the call of the signs of the times, Española has coined the word Personiforms as a portmanteau for persona and cuneiforms, where personas of top candidates in the 2022 Philippine National Elections are explored and distilled into a series of monochromes serving as creative vessels of contemporary events.

“Personiforms” will be on view at Mamusa Art Gallery from May 5 – June 5, 2022. Exhibit will open on May 5, 2022 at 3:00 pm. The gallery is open from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM. For inquiries, please contact us at 0995-470-5076 or mamusaartgallery@gmail.com
