PPO Plays Soothing Bedtime Songs in its Friday Online Pocket Concert

The Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra continues to render online performances through the MUSIC FOR HEALING: PPO in Quarantine Pocket Concert Series to uplift the minds and hearts of Filipinos in the midst of the quarantine period.  One of the three pocket concerts, namely, PPO BY YOUR BEDSIDE, will be streamed on August 7, 2020 at 8 pm through the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ Website.

For this Friday’s edition of PPO BY YOUR BEDSIDE, the playlist will feature the following pieces:

  • Usahay composed by Gregorio Labja and performed by Joy Allan De la Cruz on the viola. The song was inspired by the moment when the composer met the woman who would become his wife.
  • Malinac Lay Labi arranged by Joy T. Nilo and performed by Dino Decena and Christian Tan on the violin; Rey Casey Concepcion on the viola, Giancarlo Gonzales on the Cello, and Rommel Cruz on the Contrabass. The song is Pangasinense folk song that describes a calm and peaceful night enjoyed together with a loved one.
  • Bayan Ko composed by Constancio de Guzman and performed by Jay Ar Mesa on the French Horn and Manuel Agustine Chua on the guitar. This patriotic song is an iconic one, originally written in Spanish by the composer and translated into Filipino by poet Jose Corazon de Jesus some three decades after it was written.
  • Hanggang composed by Wency Cornejo and performed by Hercules Santiago on the Flute, Christian Tan on the Violin, and Giuseppe Diestro on the Cello. The song is a single from the multi award-winning composer from his album “Langit sa Lupa”.

The Music for Healing: PPO in Quarantine Pocket Concert Series is an ongoing program of the PPO for July and August which can be viewed from the PPO FB page and the CCP YouTube as platforms.  Initially intended as an online music offering to Filipinos who are recuperating in their beds either from hospitals or from their own homes as therapy to aid in their total healing, it also aims to accompany the whole family in coping with the pandemic situation and the frontliners who bravely provide their services to fellow countrymen in need.

PPO in Quarantine Pocket Concert Series had its premiere on July 3, 2020, with 12 musical numbers in the playlist recorded by PPO musicians from their homes especially intended for the sick Filipinos under PPO by your Bedside program.  The series offers two other programs, the PPO in the Workplace pocket concert and the PPO in your Living Room pocket concert.
