The pandemic has revealed deeply ingrained socio-political issues hidden in our periphery. How to shed light to these critical narratives in the margins as state violence and surveillance continue to get worse? How to navigate and understand the complexities and contradictions that exist in our systems and territories? How to identify the intentions and objectives of those in power? The state assures us that everything is under control. We may believe so despite data and reports from the grassroots that show otherwise. How to make sense of our world amidst information overload? How to dissect what information provides value and not? How to use this knowledge with agency?

As a response to the urgent need to help the Filipino youth unpack and process pressing issues during this period of crisis and fake news, we developed a new public program Sitwasyon—a series of online conversations about current events with youth leaders, journalists, community organizers and workers from the Sciences and the Humanities.

To be launched live on Facebook on August 1st, Saturday, 4-6pm through Stream Yard, the first episode of Sitwasyon is reflecting on State of the Nation Address (SONA) and the recently passed Anti-Terrorism Law.

Called “The Nation Under Terror,” the first episode will feature Altermidya – People’s Alternative Media Network and Agham Youth National.

Moderated by Roma Estrada, the pilot eposide of Sitwasyon will feature Marjohara Tucay, Robert Miranda and Abigail Ablang.

Every second Saturday, we broadcast an episode of Sitwasyon. Each episode is a conversation moderated by writer and teacher Roma Estrada.
