The MB SKETCHFEST 2020 is a NATIONWIDE SKETCHING AND ART COMPETITION sponsored by the MANILA BULLETIN on November 14, 2020 (Saturday.) There are three major categories: On-the-Spot, Digital, and Exhibition categories. Participants may join one category only.

 

ON-THE-SPOT SKETCHING

I. Registration (LUZON/VISAYAS/MINDANAO)

  • Participants may register online starting September 15, 2020 (Tuesday) until 11:59 p.m. of November 8, 2020 (Sunday).
    •    Participants should visit sketchfest2020.mb.com.ph and click on the button for your chosen category.
    •    Read the mechanics thoroughly.
    •    Download the waiver form.
    •    To register, fill out the necessary information needed for each field. Do not skip or leave a blank field.
    •    A confirmation e-mail will be sent to the participant’s e-mail address to acknowledge your registration.
    •    Use the same email for the submission of your finished artwork on the day of the event proper. Only one participant and entry is allowed per email address.

II. CATEGORIES

KIDDIE    (Children 12 years old and below)
JUNIOR     (13 to 18 years old)
SENIOR     (19 years old and above)

III. CONTEST RULES/MECHANICS

i.    Pre- Event Preparation

A.    Participants are required to use plain 18 x 12 inches white paper.
B.    Only dry mediums are allowed. Painting or similar mediums will not be accepted.
C.    All entries must be manually sketched in portrait or landscape format. Digital artwork will not be accepted.
D.    Each artist may submit one (1) entry only. Artworks should be original based on their interpretation of the theme “The Resilience of the Filipino”.
E.    Participants will be given six (6) hours to do their artwork within the designated time                      (10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.) only. All late artworks will be disqualified.

ii.    On-The-Day

A.    All participants must have a stable internet connection.
B.    Participants should be on live standby before the program which will start at 9:45 a.m. Philippine Standard Time.
C.    At the start of the program, participants should like the Manila Bulletin Facebook Live program, and comment below “I am part of #MBSketchfest2020”.
D.    Participants should also share Manila Bulletin Facebook Live program and indicate in the caption, “I am part of #MBSketchfest2020” and tag @manilabulletin. Setting of post should be in public.
E.    Participants who do not have their own Facebook account may use their guardian’s account. This will also be implemented for the all the required posts in the mechanics below.
F.    Event host will announce the start of the competition proper at exactly 10:00 a.m.

iii.    Event Proper

A.    Participants should immediately begin their artworks at the designated time and broadcast a Facebook live video of them doing their artwork for at least 1-2 minutes.
B.    Post your 1-2 minute video with the caption “I am part of #MBSketchfest2020” and tag @manilabulletin. Setting of post should be in public.
C.    Participants should post their “live video” within 1 hour from the start of the competition.

iv.    Post Event

A.    Participants are required to do the following:

a. Take a photo of their finished artwork
b. Take a photo with their finished artwork
c. Post the photos with the caption “I am part of #MBSketchfest2020” and tag @manilabulletin on or before 4:00 p.m. of November 14, 2020 (Saturday.)

B. All the submitted links, including the ones above, must be active until the announcement of
winners.

v.    Submission of Artworks

A.    All artworks will be submitted thru the official Sketchfest 2020 website link that was sent to after official registration. Participants are to submit the following documents:

1.    Accomplished official Waiver Form
2.    Clear scanned copy of artwork (300 DPI resolution and in jpeg format)
3.    Link of live video sketching
4.    Link of Facebook post of completed artwork
5.    Scanned copy of 2 valid ID’s
6.    Participants photo with their artwork
7.    Clear 2×2 photo of the participant
8.    Title of Artwork

B.    Follow this format in assigning a File name to your entry. It should be should be “surname_first name_ title of artwork_category.”
Ex. Dela Cruz_Juan_Matanglawin_senior
C.    Deadline of submission of all documents is on November 15, 2020 (Sunday) until 11:59 p.m. All late submissions will be disqualified.
D.    All artworks submitted shall become the property of the Manila Bulletin and has the right to feature the participants and winners; and use their artworks for promotional purposes of the competition.
E.    An entry will be disqualified in case of the following:

•    Not following the given requirements including size, age and format.
•    Works that are obscene or may discriminate any group, culture, beliefs and integrity of others.
•    Works using any dangerous, illegal/prohibitive, hazardous materials and substances.
•    Works with incomplete documentation.
•    Works that are copied from other artists will be treated as plagiarized artwork.

vi.    Judging

A.    Validating of qualified entries will be done by Manila Bulletin’s representatives and judges.
B.    Judging of qualified and validated entries and determination of winners will be on November 25, 2020 (Wednesday) at 9:00 am via Zoom or similar platform in the presence of a DTI Representative

vii.    Winners

A.    Winners will be announced via Facebook live and will be posted on Manila Bulletin’s official Facebook page on November 30, 2020 (Monday) at 11 a.m.
B.    Participants are required to share the Manila Bulletin’s Facebook live announcement of winners.
C.    There will be three (3) winners in each category.
D.    The Top 3 winners in each category are required to submit their original artwork at the Manila Bulletin’s office. Winning entries should be ready to hang or wall bound. Place the following details at the back of the artwork (title of the artwork/name/address/contact number/email address/signature).
E.    For Metro Manila and all other areas, submission of entries will be at Manila Bulletin’s head office in Intramuros City, Manila. For provincial winners, submission will be at the nearest open Manila Bulletin branch. Please refer to www.mb.com.ph for the addresses of Manila Bulletin branches.
F.    Claiming of prizes will be on a scheduled basis.
G.    A 20% tax on prizes exceeding Php 10,000 shall be shouldered by the winners.
H.    All prizes must be claimed within 60 days upon receipt of notification by the Manila Bulletin. Prizes may be in cash or check. Winners must bring the original copy of their two (2) valid ID’s with birthdate (gov’t, school or company ID).
I.    Employees of the Manila Bulletin including their relatives up to third degree of consanguinity or affinity are not eligible to join the contest.

IV. CRITERIA 

Adherence – relevance to the theme            40%
Creativity – artistic design                 35%
Originality – unique and fresh idea            25%

V.    PRIZES

•    Senior:
1st place        Php 30,000 worth of cash and/or gift certificates
2nd place        Php 20,000 worth of cash and/or gift certificates
3rd place        Php 10,000 worth of cash and/or gift certificates

•    Junior:
1st place        Php 15,000 worth of cash and/or gift certificates
2nd place        Php 10,000 worth of cash and/or gift certificates
3rd place        Php 5,000 worth of cash and/or gift certificates

•    Kiddie:
1st place        Php 5,000 worth of cash and/or gift certificates
2nd place        Php 3,000 worth of cash and/or gift certificates
3rd place        Php 2,000 worth of cash and/or gift certificates

 

 

 

Digital Category

I.  Registration

•    This category is open to participants of all ages.
•    Participants may register online starting September 15, 2020 (Tuesday) until 11:59 p.m. of November 8, 2020 (Sunday).

II. CONTEST RULES/MECHANICS

A. All entries must be digitally drawn in portrait or landscape format. Animation, motions, and other sub-classification of digital art that cannot be rendered to print are disqualified from the contest.
C.    All entries must be 3600 x 5400 pixels (12 x 18 inches, and 300 DPI) and in jpeg format.
D.    Each artist may submit one (1) entry only. Artworks should be original based on their interpretation of the theme “The Resilience of the Filipino”.
E.    Participants will be given six (6) hours to do their artwork within the designated time                      (10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.) only. All late artworks will be disqualified.

B. All the submitted links, including the ones above, must be active until the announcement of winners.

v.    Submission of Artworks

A.    All artworks will be submitted thru the official Sketchfest 2020 website link that was sent to after official registration. Participants are to submit the following documents:

B. Judging of qualified and validated entries and determination of winners will be on November 25, 2020 (Wednesday) at 9:00 am via Zoom or similar platform in the presence of a DTI Representative

vii.    Winners

A.    Winners will be announced via Facebook live and will be posted on Manila Bulletin’s official Facebook page on November 30, 2020 (Monday) at 11 a.m.
B.    Participants are required to share the Manila Bulletin’s Facebook Live announcement of winners.
C.    There will be three (3) winners in this category.
D.    The Top 3 winners are required to print and submit their original artwork at the Manila Bulletin’s office. Entries should be ready to hang or wall bound. Size should be 12 x 18 inches drawing or photo paper and should include the following details at the back: (title of the artwork/name/address/contact number/email address/signature).
E.    For Metro Manila and all other area winners, submission of entries will be at Manila Bulletin’s head office in Intramuros City, Manila. For provincial winners, submission will be at the nearest open Manila Bulletin branch. Please refer to www.mb.com.ph for the addresses of Manila Bulletin branches.
F.    Claiming of prizes will be on a scheduled basis.
G.    A 20% tax on prizes exceeding Php 10,000 shall be shouldered by the winners.

Exhibition Category

A.    This category is open to participants 16 years old and above.
B.    This category is open to any medium. Entries should be 18” x 24” size in any orientation (portrait or landscape), wall bound and ready to hang.
C.    Artists must accomplish the online registration form by visiting sketchfest2020.mb.com.ph. Choose the Exhibition category and fill out the necessary information needed for each field. Do not skip or leave a blank field. A confirmation e-mail will be sent to the participant’s e-mail address to acknowledge their registration.
D.    Print out the Registration Form together with the Waiver Form and submit this together with the artwork entry at the Manila Bulletin main office at Muralla cor. Recoletos Sts., Intramuros, Manila from September 15, 2020 to October 28, 2020 (Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon).
E.    Each artist may submit one (1) entry only. Artworks should be original and based on the theme “The Resilience of the Filipino.”
F.    Criteria for Judging:

G.    An entry will be disqualified in case of the following:

•    Not following the given requirements including size and age.
•    Works which are fragile or brittle.
•    Works that are obscene or may discriminate any group, culture, beliefs and integrity of others.
•    Works using any dangerous, illegal/prohibitive, hazardous materials and substances.
•    Unfinished works including wet works.
•    Works with incomplete documentation.

H. Participants are encouraged to post a photo of themselves with their artwork on November 14, 2020 (Saturday) in their social media accounts and indicate in the caption, “I am part of #MBSketchfest2020” and tag @manilabulletin. Setting of post should be in public.

I. Judging:

•    Participants can only win once under this category.
•    Twenty (20) semi-finalists and three (3) winners will be chosen on November 11, 2020 ( Wednesday) 2:00 p.m. at the Manila Bulletin’s main office in the presence of a DTI Representative
•    The Top 20 semi-finalist will be announced via Manila Bulletin’s official Facebook page and will also be notified via email and SMS. Top 20 semi-finalists are no longer allowed to join the on-the-spot and digital category on November 14, 2020 (Saturday.)
•    Announcement of the three (3) winners will be on November 30, 2020 (Monday) through Facebook Live.
•    A consolation prize will be given to the non-winning finalists.
•    All winning artworks, including the Top 20 finalists, will automatically become the property of the Manila Bulletin and the ownership, copyright and the intellectual property rights pertaining to the winning artwork, shall be deemed automatically assigned to the Manila Bulletin without any payment or reimbursement for the value thereof.

J. Claiming of prizes will be on a scheduled basis.

K. A 20% tax on prizes exceeding ₱10,000 shall be shouldered by the winners.

PRIZES:
1st place        ₱50,000 worth of cash and/or gift certificates
2nd place        ₱30,000 worth of cash and/or gift certificates
3rd place        ₱20,000 worth of cash and/or gift certificates
Consolation        ₱2,000 worth of cash and/or gift certificates

L. Aside from cash prizes, Manila Bulletin has the right to feature the winners.

M. To claim their prizes, winners must bring one (1) valid ID with birthdate (gov’t, school or company ID) together with the forms at the Manila Bulletin’s main office. Unclaimed prizes may be claimed 60 days upon the receipt of notification at the Manila Bulletin’s main office from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (except Saturdays and Sundays) .

 

RETRIEVAL OF ENTRIES

A.    All artworks which do not qualify as 20 semi-finalists must be retrieved at the Manila Bulletin’s main office from December 7, 2020 to January 29, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.                       (except Saturdays and Sundays) on a pre-scheduled basis.
B.    The artist must present their forms and valid identification cards to the authorized Manila Bulletin personnel to claim his/her entry. NO FORMS, NO RELEASE OF ARTWORK.
C.    Entries not collected on designated dates shall automatically become property of the Manila Bulletin, including the copyright and all intellectual property rights thereof.
