The Yin Art Gallery will host a duo exhibition Storytelling Eyes by Filipino artist Ian Inoy and Indonesian artist Yula Setyowidi. It is often said that the eyes are the “window to the soul”, regardless of national borders, everyone agrees that the eyes can reveal many messages of the

This theme encourages viewers to reflect and internalize thinking through the expression of its interesting characters, providing a visual feeling that goes beyond mere aesthetics and promotes resonance in complex social tapestries. Let the artist write his unique charming eyes, lead everyone to describe the process of cognition and learning through the eyes, feel the world with both eyes, and communicate the inner story with the eyes.

Ian Inoy from the Philippines is a visual storyteller whose work depicts his sensitivity and openness to the world around him. His paintings show endless surreal scenes and lovely and mysterious creatures, while also containing a deep understanding of life and reality.

Ian’s work creates an interesting contrast between theme choices and life ideas, and he uses easily recognizable creatures in his paintings to encourage deeper inquiry into what they mean without losing innocence.

For Ian, the most effective way to pass on knowledge is to relearn how to absorb the experiences of his youth, so he chose to form these childish subjects that allow people to have an intimate conversation with his paintings. Such appearances, however, should not be mistaken for mere naivety.

Through this near-pleasure image, the artist encourages the audience to see the richness and redeeming nature of life’s otherwise bleak moments – a humble and hopeful recognition of their own existence in a personalized drama.

Yula Setyowidi, an Indonesian artist, participated in the joint exhibition at the Yao Art Gallery at the end of last year. The works were loved by many viewers and impressed everyone. I am delighted to invite the artist again to bring new works to meet you!
Yula Setyowidi is a contemporary artist from the east coast of Java, Indonesia. After studying fine arts in Yogyakarta, he decided to stay in the city and contribute his ideas in the vibrant fine arts atmosphere. With the development of his artistic ideas, he participated in many artistic creation and cultural activities, so that his dialogue with art never stopped. Yula always combines multiple traditional and non-traditional mediums with ideas in the creative process, depicts the eyes as vocal objects in Yula’s work, appreciates the eyes in our work as if looking back and forth at ourselves, hoping that each person will carefully observe and analyze their thoughts, emotions and actions, and understand their true identity and expectations of life.
