Sun Gazing is an activity that can start with a sunrise and end with a sunset. Realistically speaking, one cannot look straight into the sun. We long for it in the evening when it’s too dark to see outside, we long for it when the rain starts to pour, and we long for it to provide a constant ray of light in our daily lives. This response is such a human thing to do. We get used to the constant things around us and we always aspire for something more, and sometimes, we desire it way too much. For the artist Don Bryan Bunag, this very predicament is how he has observed his local hometown in Bulacan to have become. For a child who grew up in a simple grassland rich in culture and history, the perpetual urbanization and modernization, the constant changes his hometown is faced with – these are all too familiar to the very act of Sun Gazing. – an excerpt from “Sun Gazing” by Karen Tesalona
