About the Speaker

Laya Boquiren is with the Nayong Pilipino Foundation. She has a Doctor of Philosophy in Philippine Studies. She has served as curatorial consultant for Gallery Genesis, the Museo de Intramuros, and various independent projects. Through a grant from the Japan Foundation, she was one of the co-curators of the international travelling exhibition Field Trip Project. Boquiren has contributed in academic journals, published books and contributed chapters of books under Vibal Publishing; authored a book on Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice awardee Willy Tadeo Layug, for whom she curated the artist’s second solo exhibition at the NCCA Gallery and authored a corresponding monograph published by the institution. Other publications include Now Here: Access, Activate, Rewind for Erehwon Center for the Arts and a book on grandmaster of Philippine aquarelle Toti Cerda. She obtained a master of arts in Art History from the University of the Philippines, Diliman, and has completed short focused programs at the Institute of Media and Entertainment New York and Keio University Japan.
