Christian Regis takes on an aesthetic exploration of our beliefs and superstitions that modern technology is slowly making us forget. Embedded in every meticulous brush stroke is part of our history brought to life in the present. As the effects of globalization spread to every corner of our daily life, “Forgotten Ways” serves as a refreshing look at our colorful past.
Departing from his usual fare of Manila’s streets and landmarks and transporting us to a distant memory of forest duendes, falling utensils, and the 6 o’clock mass, every line and crevice he creates is a mystical remembrance from our yearning youth. Intertwined in the fabric of this exhibition are Regis’s metal sculptures, shown to the public for the very first time, featuring icons of Manila’s street vendor culture.
