Born on January 3, 1992, in a small town of Narra, Gloria, Oriental Mindoro, Peter John Salazar was early on noticed to be a gifted child. He grew up in a humble family; his mother took care of him and his siblings, while his father works as a farmer in the field.
According to his mother, Peter learned to draw and sketch even before he was able to write. His classmates in grade school always ask him favors to help them with their drawing assignments. He finished high school at the Domingo Yu Chu National High School where he exhibited his skill in art, which his teachers believed to be his greatest potential.
His interest in art became stronger after he finished High School. But because of financial difficulties experienced by his family he was not able to continue to pursue his studies to take a degree in Fine Arts.
So, instead, he worked as an apprentice for a renowned local sculptor. During his apprenticeship, he was able to learn first-hand and acquire the necessary skill set of his craft. He was able to experience the creation of larger-than-life sculptures commissioned by local government units and churches alike.
After completing several projects working as an apprentice, his self-confidence became established abreast with his skills. He started working on projects on his own and started accepting commissioned works professionally and independently. His affection for the indigenous people of Mindoro is evident in most of the artworks he creates.
Presently, he is one of the main artists at Balai Mindoro, where some of his works are on permanent display. Peter John Salazar is also a founding member of Balai Mindoro Artists Group.
