Rendered Conditions

Nune Alvarado, Anton del Castillo, Renato Balute Group Show

July 8-22 (Opening Reception July 11, 2026)

Art Camp, Greenbelt 5

Exhibition Notes:

This exhibition considers the image as a site of convergence where bodies, histories, and conditions come into contact and are carried across surfaces. Rather than presenting fixed narratives, the works operate through accumulation: of gestures, symbols, and visual tensions that resist singular interpretation.

At the center of this convergence is the figure, not as a stable subject, but as a shifting construct shaped by its surroundings. As John Berger suggests, ways of seeing are never neutral; they are conditioned by context, memory, and power. Here, the figure appears at once present and mediated, grounded yet suspended, caught between lived experience and its representation. It becomes a vessel through which broader social conditions are negotiated, whether through clarity, distortion, or excess. What emerges is a field of images that oscillate between immediacy and distance. Some invite recognition, others disrupt it; some assert presence, while others obscure or fragment it. In this interplay, meaning is not fixed but produced through encounter, echoing Stuart Hall’s notion of representation as an active process of construction. The viewer is asked. not only to see, but to navigate, moving across layers that unfold gradually rather than all at once.

To consider these works together is to encounter the image as something that holds and transmits. It carries traces of memory, structures of power, and the weight of everyday experience, without resolving them. Instead, it sustains a space of tension, where visibility is negotiated, and where meaning remains in motion. In this shared terrain, painting becomes a process of holding: of bodies, of conditions, and of ways of seeing that continue to shift with time.
